How can I implement roll up functionality

How can I implement roll up functionality was created by claire liu
I made a demo what I try to accomplish - see attachment. Is there a way to implement something like it? Summery field seems another possibility but does it support fully customization including customized data and display? Can I move summery to top instead of have it at bottom? Also what DirectX is for? Can I configure it out? Thanks.

Somehow I can't attach a file, so let me explain the roll up functionality a bit, basically it is "sum" of each row in sub table data field, but instead of display number the separately in a summery field I want to display the number in the same row where one level up root item resides.
